It starts with a conversation

…Not your first email to me, or the form you fill out on my website. I learn about you, your project, and your voice. Whether you are looking for a speech or a custom creative piece, we’ll talk ideas and get to work.

There’s nothing “in the can.” My writing is custom, developed for you and your audience. No AI speeches. Real human beings.

My approach is to think big with a purpose.

That is, speak with power and remember the goal: to convince the audience to change. Whether that change is to donate money or time, to sell more product, or to improve their life, there is always a call to action.

Everything is relationship.

Let me emphasize that again: Everything is relationship. My relationship to you, you to your audience, them to each other.  Know that and half your communication challenges are fixed. Forget that and you’ll have more troubles than you can handle.

If you need a speech banged out, it won’t sound like you unless I get to know you. I’ll do my best to meet your timeline because I understand that sometimes, schedules don’t cooperate.

Similarly, if you hire me to give a speech, I want to understand the needs of the audience. Sure, I can step in without much prep work, but I can best relate my comments to your audience if I have a sense of they are.

Strategy is a key component, as is theater. The goal is to emphasize the audience goals and expectations, venue, and, of course, the strengths of the speaker.

Background

My background is literature, and this shows up especially in major speeches. When audience engagement is required, I use every tool available: Turns of phrase, pacing and other literary techniques are part of my writing process.

When the buzzword “storytelling” is bandied about, I actually know what it means.

“Creativity is more than just being different. Anybody can play weird; that’s easy. What’s hard is to be as simple as Bach. Making the simple, awesomely simple, that’s creativity.”

Charles Mingus

"Curiosity about life in all of its aspects, I think, is still the secret of great creative people."

Leo Burnett

"Imagination is the beginning of creation. You imagine what you desire, you will what you imagine, and at last, you create what you will."

George Bernard Shaw
