Great Writing Starts With Great Reading

No one reads enough. Any writer, though, is influenced by what he reads.

The old adage, “Garbage in, garbage out,” applies… mostly. What counts as garbage?

More than one good writer was a comic book reader. Others grew up on pulp fiction. Some were teethed on the local newspaper sports page.

What counts are great reading? Sure, Shakespeare, Hemingway, and Ibsen all qualify. The idea is to read with passion, with curiosity, and a good mind to sort a quality phrase from a cliche.
